Chief Warrant Officer Three Jason Lamar Thomas, 45, passed away on March 9, 2018 after a prolonged illness

Jason was born on March 13th 1972, in Columbus GA to Byron and Elaine Thomas. Jason served in the Navy and National Guard prior to enlisting in the Army. He served as a Fire Support Specialist, Special Forces Communications Sergeant, Special Forces Intelligence Sergeant, Company operations Sergeant, Advanced Skills Instructor and was appointed as Special Forces Warrant Officer in 2008. He served in 1st Battalion 319th Field Artillery Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). As a Green Beret in the 3rd Special Forces Group Jason served in the 1st Battalion, Advanced Skills Company, and 4th Battalion. During his Special Forces career, Jason conducted multiple combat tours to Afghanistan and deployments to other regions in support of multiple theatre commands.

Jason was awarded the Special Forces Tab, The Master Parachutist Badge, The Combat Infantry Badge, 3 Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart, 2 Army Commendation Medals with (V) device, and numerous other military awards and decorations. At the time of his death Jason was serving in 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group. His impact to the Special Forces Regiment will be felt for years to come.

Jason Loved Alabama Football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an Avid and Accomplished hunter and loved to travel on hunting trips with other Wounded Warriors

Jason is survived by his three children, Jared of Auburn AL, Kyleigh and Jacob of Fayetteville, his parents Byron and Elaine Thomas of Phenix City, AL, and his brother Shawn Thomas of Trinity, NC
