MSG. Donald A. Barger

MSG (RET) Barger was born in Augsburg, Germany. He graduated from High School in 1985. He entered the Army in June of 1985. He attended basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he was awarded the Infantry MOS, 11H. Upon the completion of Airborne school in 1985, MSG (RET) Barger was assigned to E Company 3" Battalion, 8th Infantry Division in Germany. MSG (RET) Barger was then assigned to C Company, 1/75 Ranger Regiment from March 1987 thru April 1991.

MSG (RET) Barger graduated from the Special Forces Qualification course in July of 1994 and awarded the MOS 18B. He was assigned Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he served as a Senior Weapons Sergeant on ODA 383.

In 1997, he served as a recruiter in Roanoke, Virginia. After his recruiting assignment, MSG (RET) Barger was re-assigned to 1 Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group as a Senior Weapons Sergeant. MSG (RET) Barger was then assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group as the Team Sergeant for ODA 333, where he deployed on multiple rotations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

MSG (RET) Barger's military schools include: Airborne School, Ranger School, PLDC, SFAS, Language School, SFQC, BNCOC, ANCOC, Recruiter School, Jungle Ops Course, Combat Lifesavers Course, Jumpmaster, SOTIC, SFAUC and INTAC.

MSG (RET) Barger's awards are Bronze Star Medal-2, Meritorious Service Medal 1, Army Commendation Medal-3, Army Achievement Medal-10, Humanitarian Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal-1, Kuwait Liberations Medal-1, Army Good Conduct Medal-6, NATO Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal-1, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge.

MSG (RET) Barger's foreign awards include: Expert German Marksmanship Badge and German Jump Wings.

MSG (Ret.) Barger is survived by his wife, Denise of Augusta County, Virginia, their 14 year old daughter Tess, two sons Elijah 12 years old and Ethan Gunner 4 years old, his mother Theresia (Jager) Barger of Mint Springs, Virginia, and his brother Richard L. Barger of Staunton, Virginia.
